As far as I'm aware, circumcision is a part of Jewish culture a religious practice to signify purity and belonging to God. Why is it still practiced in America? I have no idea. It has no health benefits whatsoever, and the reason people get so upset about it is because they see it as genital mutilation, because the baby cannot consent to the surgery and it's done purely as a part of ritual; no physical benefits.
